Dancing to Clarity
Dancing to Clarity
"Dancing with Clarity" was created during Guadulesa's Matrix 5 project, which was funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She applied to the Art and Science category and studied the 5 tones used in the Tsalagi (Cherokee) medicine practice. She learned the attributes of the tones and their effect on specific bodily organs. In order to prepare her artistic process, she meditated with a particular tone and documented her body's reaction. She used a tone generator to play the desired tones at specific frequencies. Guadulesa positioned 2 canvases for each session - one lying directly upon the resonant wooden floor of her studio, and the other braced 12 inches off the ground with a speaker underneath. In this manner, she documented the tone's effect on the drying paint. Guadulesa works with a very wet palette, which allows the acrylic paints to blend and form organic shapes. She worked with the tone D @146Hz for this piece. D resonates with the stomach and spleen, and spiritually transmutes dark energy into light to achieve a transformation. "Dancing to Clarity" was the secondary painting of the pair and was positioned on the floor. Although Guadulesa began this piece in 1993, she "transformed" the piece, adding the green (color which is associated with tone D) in 2004 and renamed the artwork "Dancing to Clarity."
